Votes at 16

Here is another Fab opportunity for youth councillors aged 15/16/17.

We are working with Oldham Theatre workshop on the theme of Votes at 16!!!! and are looking for young people to participate in a debate project – debating…..the issue of votes for 16year olds.

We are running a training residential on Monday 8th April – Tuesday 9th April at castleshaw where you will participate in fun workshops that teach you how to debate and skills for public speaking, as well as developing your opinion on the issue of….Votes at 16. after the residdential you will debate the issue of ……..votes at 16 in front of audiences of young people via school assemblies – demonstrating the for and against arguements and then asking the young people to vote if they are for or against.

You will even get an accreditation for taking part Woop Woop

The information will help Theatre workshop in devising their amazing summer show – Political Will – a drama based on the issue of…you’ve guessed it…votes at 16.

The residential is totally free and will be totally fun and amazing. Priority places are for Youth Council members ( aged 15/16/17) (sorry younger and older ones but thems the breaks) – any places not filled by Youth Councillors will be made available to theatre workshop young people so Hurry up – let me know if you want to participate in this Fantastic residential opportunity.

Vote at 16 is one of the Main Campaigns of the British Youth Council

Please comment below or email jodie.barber@oldham.gov.uk if you want a place and let us know this week  (by Friday 15th march)

YOUTHFORIA RESIDENTAIL

We have 2 places left to join our MYPs (Daisy Murphy & Mariam Waseem) & DMYPs (Dylan Mcaughey, Jessica Entwistle & Saskia Edwards) on the Youthforia Regional Residential for 2013.  The residential will take place Friday 12th April till Sunday 14th April and will at Brathay Hall in Ambleside.  Travel, accomodation and meals are all free of charge.

In the past these resis have been great fun and will provide a great opportunity for you to learn from others and develop new skills.

The residential plans to make the voice of young people in the North West over 2013 the loudest it’s ever been and also marks the start of Youthforia’s new Tackling Youth Unemployment Programme, and exciting extension of our youth unemployment campaign which will allow young people to make a real change in the region.  As well as this, we will be working on other issues relevant to young people to come up with our first manifesto.

If you are interested please let Chris know either through facebook, email: chris.lewis@oldham.gov.uk or by phone: 0161 770 3121.  Chris needs to know by the 15th March and places will be given on a first come first served basis.

PRIORITIES MEETING

Priorities meeting is this Wednesday from 6.00pm (you will be able access the centre before 6). All are welcome and you can swap between the different priority groups. I love me will be slightly delayed as Chris/Mariam Waseem are interviewing new staff but please will all I Love Me leads come down and help out with bullying and employability.

There is a lot of work to do this week so we need as many people as possible.  This is open to all young people not just youth councillors.

Election Results

Tonight the Oldham Youth Council held their annual election to elect their representatives to the UK Youth Parliament. Due to last year’s deputies not being to continue the transition to members of youth parliament this meant electing two members of youth parliament (MYP) and two deputy members of youth parliament (DMYP).

The first vote produced two clear front runners and congratulations go to Mariam Waseem and Daisy who will Oldham’s MYPs for the coming year.

The second vote for DMYPs ended with a three way tie between the three candidates running. After a vote of the Youth Council it was decided that for 2013 Oldham would have three DMYPs. Congratulations to Dylan McAughey, Saskia Edwards and Jessica Entwistle who take up the DMYP role.

YOUTH COUNCIL MEETING

Youth council meeting tomorrow night as normal. Please send your apologies if you can’t make it.  Don’t forget its the DMYP and MYP elections so we need everyone here to vote.

Also Jamie is coming in to sort out the rebranding from 3.30. If you’re coming for the rebrand please let me know as we are buying in some pizza and I need to know how many to buy

Thanks see you all Wednesday
